Two thoughts:
1) people misunderstanding the manifesto - or more likely choosing to bend the principles to achieve their own aims (see Larman’s Laws of organisational behaviour) - is no reason to change the manifesto.
2) if you have to “sell agile” as a solution, the organisation doesn’t understand the problem. Start there!
