Our current education system is based on the Industrial Age need for lots of people to become compliant, obedient employees.

These days we know that the vast majority of what we learn in a classroom is quickly forgotten unless reinforced by regular practice.

The radical approach you suggest would have to involve:

  • Less teaching, more coaching and mentoring. Helping students to learn things for themselves instead of being forced to sit in a classroom and listen to a teacher.
  • Zero grading, more feedback
  • Abolish the notion of ‘cheating’. Encourage students to help each other learn. Students learning in groups instead of (only) individually.
