If citizens can vote on local policies of the behaviour of autonomous cars, what if the voting platform asked more far-reaching questions too?

Could citizens vote on community budget policy? How about a new police chief? Local councillors?

Do we build a new railway or a new road bridge? Ask the people.

Raise or lower taxes? Ask the people.

Such technology could herald — possibly for the first time ever — true democracy. Absolutely essential to making it work though, would be voters armed with objective facts about each issue. Choosing between two opposing but biased views won’t make anything better.
