I am not so sure that such a black-and-white argument holds up either. Personally, my ‘success’, modest though it is, is due to a combination of many things — luck (yes, a fair amount of that), the help of others (undoubtedly), and my own determination to persist and improve myself.

But for a combination of all of those factors, I could just as easily be homeless today (as I nearly was once).
